Weddings have always been marketed as the pinnacle of romance, but let’s be real: the industry runs on capitalism. The “perfect day” is a product, and you’re the target audience. Big venues, luxury brands, endless upsells… you know the script. What you don’t hear often enough is that you don’t have to play along.

This issue is about resistance. Not the kind with placards and megaphones (though we love that energy too), but the kind that happens when you make choices that feel like yours instead of the machine’s.

♥ When you hire the queer-owned catering company instead of the faceless chain.

♥ When you buy your outfit second-hand or from an independent designer instead of chasing trends.

♥ When you say no to tradition because it feels empty, and yes to meaning because it’s yours.

We’ve packed these pages with couples who ripped up the rulebook and rebuilt their day around values, not marketing plans. Expect thrifted gowns, DIY feasts, messy dancefloors, and advice that’s actually going to help you – not just encourage you to part with more of your hard-earned cash!

Our cover shoot, sprinkled throughout the issue, was inspired by the Corpse Bride, and although Halloween is technically over for another year (sob!) we know the spooky scene is a lifestyle choice for rock ‘n’ roll brides so we didn’t hesitate to put it front and centre this issue!

“I actually dreamed this shoot up with Rock n Roll Bride in mind!” photographer Lauren New told us. “I wanted to create a fresh, modern take on Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride as a way to push my creativity and celebrate one of my favourite times of year. I thought it would be so fun to merge current wedding trends with a movie so many of us know and love. I wanted to create something that felt elevated and editorial. This editorial shows couples that their wedding can be dark, moody, and bold while still feeling luxurious and thoughtfully designed.”

But this issue isn’t just airy-fairy theory. It’s packed with tools to help you through it: how to survive the pressure cooker of Instagram vs reality, why your day doesn’t need to be “Pinterest-worthy” to be unforgettable, and another fashion editorial that rips up the rulebook with thrifted, reclaimed, and upcycled looks proving real style doesn’t always require buying brand-new pieces.

Whatever type of wedding you have its going to cost money, and you’re not a hypocrite for spending it. What matters is how you spend it, and whether it reflects who you are. That’s what this issue is about: dismantling the pressure, keeping the joy, and flipping a middle finger to the machine while you do it.

You can order this single issue below or subscribe here. Thank you for supporting the work we do to make the wedding industry a more inclusive, accessible and alt-friendly space by buying the magazine!
